Uniontown, OH – Wayne Homes, an Ohio-based custom home builder that specializes in on-your-lot custom homes, has announced their newest exterior style: The Contemporary.
Our Product Development team has been behind the creation and development of the new Contemporary exteriors.
Sebastian Hudachek is our Product Development Manager and Kaitlin Haugh is one of our Product Designers. Both played integral roles in developing the Contemporary exterior style, but the idea really stemmed from Kaitlin’s vision and inspiration.
When asked about what the inspiration was behind developing this new exterior style, Kaitlin said,
“Contemporary is a great way to dip your feet into the ‘modern’ exterior because the Contemporary home can combine different elements of modern while still incorporating more traditional elements and materials that our Wayne Homes customers love.”
A few design elements that make the Contemporary exterior different than other exterior styles/trends include:
- Asymmetrical Design
- While everything is not symmetrical, the design still gives an intentionally uneven arrangement of the design elements to create a sense of visual balance. While all the parts and elements are not the same size, shape, or position, they still correspond well together and overall create a cohesive design.
- Clean lines
- No ornate details or ornamental design elements, etc.
- Large windows
- A big factor in contemporary design is natural light so incorporating large windows into the design is important.
- Mixed materials
- Siding, wood, brick, stone, etc.
- Natural colors and neutral tones
Kaitlin noted that some of the inspiration for the Contemporary exterior was drawn from architectural masters of the past.
“I think going back to our ‘roots’ of contemporary and modern design has helped to provide inspiration. Architects like Frank Lloyd Wright’s use of natural material and natural light in his designs and Ludwig Mies van der Rohe’s simplicity and restraint definitely influenced the Contemporary exterior style.” It’s a natural, “less is more” approach.

We love this new exterior style so much, we gave our Portage Gettysburg II model home’s exterior a refresh with our Contemporary style. In conjunction with the release of the new Contemporary exterior option for our Gettysburg II floor plan, we are celebrating the completion of the exterior renovation of our Gettysburg II model home at the Portage Model Home Sales Center.
Another model home is currently undergoing a renovation to the exterior.
The Providence II at the Sandusky Model Home Sales Center is also getting a face lift. This renovation is scheduled to be completed later this fall.
